2 What is PCI? PCI stands for Patient Care Inquiry. It is a Module offered through the MEDITECH system that provides health care professionals easy access to patient information collected throughout the health care network.

3 Features of PCI: PCI provides complete clinical and administrative patient information Allows data access with minimal keystrokes Allows view customization for patient identification and result viewing Offers system security on a User level, as well as complete audit trails and system utilization reports

4 The PCI Navigation System
Allows access to patient data with minimum key strokes. Right and left arrow keys are used to maneuver within the module Users can view patient information collected throughout the MEDITECH Healthcare Information System. Results from patient visits at NEB, MAH, BIDN, and WH are available, access permitting The verb strip allows users to perform various functions, including printing, bulletin board edits and option selections

5 Identifying a Patient Patients can be identified in a variety of ways.
Many options provide patients that are linked to a provider in a list format, such as YOUR patients, and ER visits Patients can be identified individually via Unit number or Name.

6 PCI is designed in a Summary-to-Detail Format.
Review of PCI Basics PCI is designed in a Summary-to-Detail Format. After signing on to PCI and identifying a patient from the PATIENT ID MENU, the user will encounter a series of windows that display increasingly detailed information about the patient. PATIENT ID MENU

7 Review of PCI Basics The Table of Contents Window lists the various categories of information available on a patient. These categories are called Data sources. The header includes a verb strip of commands and indicates the time period over which data is displayed. Table of Contents Window

8 Review of PCI Basics The Summary Window summarizes the data available in a Data source. The header includes the selected Data source name, verb strip, and the current date. Summary Window

10 Review of PCI Basics The Detail Window displays the most detail for the information selected. Specific tests, specimens, or hospital visits can be viewed here. The Detail Window is an actual screen from the Data source module. Detail Window

11 The Verb Strip allows users to perform additional functions.
Review of PCI Basics The Verb Strip allows users to perform additional functions. Each window contains a verb strip. A verb strip is a list of commands that allow users to execute functions. Users can add a Clinical Highlights Data source to the Table of Contents Window, Print a Result Summary, or change the Time period over which the data is displayed. 12 CLINICAL HIGHLIGHTS Data source
Clinical Highlights is a user-defined Data source. It is located on the TABLE OF CONTENTS Window. Clinical Highlights allows you to group frequently viewed data on one screen. When the information is no longer needed, it can easily be removed. Table of Contents Window for Clinical Highlights

13 Recent Clinical Results
The Recent Clinical Results Data source displays recent results/reports from the following Data sources: Radiology Reports Laboratory Data Blood Bank test and products Microbiology data Anatomical Pathology reports Departmental Reports Each time a new result is entered in one of these clinical areas for a patient, the system adds it to the Recent Clinical Results Data source. Results remain on the Recent Clinical Results Data source until a new result appears, or for the time period defined in the Recent Results Purge.

14 Security Options Users can be restricted to viewing patients only in their locations. Users can be restricted to view patients associated only with a Physician or Physician Group. Patients and Data can be marked as confidential - access to which is controlled. Patient records can be sealed for maximum security.
