Unit assessment support packages at Higher - approaches Package 1 Unit by Unit approach – a discrete assessment task for each Unit (2D context) Package 2 Unit by Unit approach – a discrete assessment task for each Unit (3D context) Package 3 Portfolio approach – naturally occurring evidence

Assessment Support Package 1 Unit by Unit approach (Appendix 1 - 2D contexts) Judging Evidence Table describes the standard of evidence and the success criteria for a Unit pass (all Outcomes/assessment standards) An assessment task is provided in Appendix 1. This can be adapted by centres as long as the standard is maintained Additional information is provided on assessment conditions and evidence to be gathered.

Art and Design Higher Course Assessment

Course Assessment at Higher Course Assessment at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher assesses Added Value Courses at Higher are normally assessed by one or two Components Courses at Higher are graded A – D, as at present Controlled Assessment of setting, conducting and marking For Art and Design there are two Components – a portfolio and a question paper

Higher – Portfolio Set by centres within SQA guidelines Conducted under some supervision and control Submitted to SQA for marking Equally weighted portfolio of practical art and design work (160 marks – 80/80) The focused development of a single line of enquiry (expressive and design)

Higher – Portfolio Three stages – development, final art work/design solution, evaluation. The development stage shows the creative starting point and the further development of a single line of enquiry. This development work will be used to then produce a final piece of expressive art and a design solution showing the creative realisation of the ideas Candidates will then evaluate both their final piece of art work and their design solution The Higher Art and Design Assessment Task and General Assessment Information documents list the specific assessment criteria for the portfolio and provide mark breakdowns for each stage of the portfolio.

Higher – Question Paper Set and marked by SQA Conducted in centres under conditions specified for external examinations by SQA Two equally weighted Sections (Expressive Art/Design Studies) 60 marks in total (30 /30) Extended response answers Candidates will complete two question s (from a choice of four) in each section of the paper Questions 1 and 2 are based on responding to an image (10 marks) Questions 3 and 4 are designed to assess candidate’s knowledge of art /design work and practice and the contexts which influence it (20 marks)
