Cleaning Your Computers Presented By: Brandon Ellis Sandra Walker Patty Gantt Patty Williams

Turn off computer. Turn mouse upside-down. Unscrew ball retaining ring and remove ball. Clean rollers with cotton swab dampened with water or rubbing alcohol.

Wash ball in warm water with dishwashing liquid. Rinse and dry. Use compressed air to remove dust inside mouse housing. Reassemble mouse. Wipe exterior of mouse and mouse cable with cloth dampened with water. Tip: Smooth-surface mouse pads, rather than fabric-textured mouse pads, reduce the amount of build-up on the rollers.

Cleaning Your Computer Monitor Turn the monitor off and spray some window cleaner on a soft cloth to clean the monitor screen. Never spray cleaner directly on the monitor.

Cleaning Your Computer Keyboard Turn the computer off and use a small amount of alcohol on a q-tip or soft cloth to remove built up grime on the keyboard. Turn the keyboard over and shake out any loose particles Do not use commercial detergents or a vacuum cleaner!!

Cleaning Your Computer CPU To clean the computer box itself, just use a dry soft cloth to wipe off the dust. If you need something stronger, you may use some Isopropanol Alcohol on a soft cloth.

Viruses Computer viruses are easily transmitted on a floppy disk without the user even knowing it. For this reason, do not allow students to bring diskettes from home to load files onto your computer.

Viruses You should also be careful if you receive an attachment to an message. Viruses cannot infect a computer via , but if a file is attached to an message and you access it, you could infect your computer.

How to care for your computer Always keep your computer in the case whenever you are moving from one class to another. Keep your computer in a temperature controlled climate. Keep only your computer in the case – no textbooks or 3-ring binders. Do not place anything heavy on the laptop.

How to care for your computer Always place your laptop on a level surface. Wash your hands before using the computer. Fluids are the number one enemy of electronic items so it is best not to eat or drink while working on the laptop. If liquid spills on the keyboard, turn the keyboard upside down to drain for at least 12 hours before powering on again. Never allow anyone else to use your school laptop.

How to care for your computer Never put personal data or programs that can’t be easily recovered on your laptop. –Your laptop may, someday, unexpectedly require service. Your personal data will not be protected if this happens and you could lose your data. Don’t save passwords on your laptop. –Use a password that is easy for you to remember (but not easy for someone else to guess).

The Proper Way to Clean Your Laptop Computer Clean the exterior by simply wiping it off with a damp, soft cloth. Dust off the screen using a dry, lint- free, soft cloth. Pressing too hard on the screen will cause damage - so be easy. Do not use cleaning agents to clean your laptop!
