1.Why are there only few direct supplier-buyer relations ? 2.What practical cases of direct supplier-buyer relations can you identify, which could be established or improved upon ? (think of the options mentioned in the presentation) 3.What role can (should) the Government play to enable direct supplier-buyer relations ? Lead questions

Union Capacities Skilled man power to meet requirements is lacking Man power cannot handle The relationship; Lack of trust b/n union and buyers Man power cannot involve smallholders; integration is weak Unions have limited experience in export The buyer needs huge amount; cannot be met by supplier Poor union management system e.g delegation / Poor capacity of coops & Unions: storage, transport, machinery Farmer capacities Fragmented land; hence challenging to collect Poor awareness of farmers about collective marketing Limited investors to deliver high volumes Buyer requires processed sesame; cannot be supplied by farmers / Buyers demanding sustainable supply and limited capacity of producers/ Limited supply and absence of established market The buyer needs huge amount; cannot be met by supplier Lack of skill and information of farmers Results question 1 : why few direct supplier-buyer relations?
