2 ABOUT LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN UGANDA NDP was launched in 2010 with focus on poverty reduction with additional emphasis on socio-economic transformation and wealth creation for the people of Uganda. (LED has become a sixth objective of decentralization) Definition of LED LED is a process in which LGs, the private sector and community economic groups form partnerships to mobilize and manage local, and externally accessible resources, to stimulate the economy in a given locality.

7 EXPECTED BENEFITS OF LGMIS Easy accessibility to market information by the district extension officers. Provide the local communities access MIS via registered local platform. Improved quality of market information provided at the district local government for the end users. (cover aspects of desire quality, quantity, delivery times and volumes of trade). Enhance the activities of extension officers in the districts with relevant content Promote trade and market linkages in the districts within 3 major sub sectors were district have a comparative advantage Contribute and ease the planning and evaluation of production potential and trade potential of the districts

8 CRITICAL NEED FOR COLLABORATION WITH LINE MINISTRIES IN COLLECTION AND DISSEMINATION MIN. OF AGRICULTURE: Through NAADs program inform and encourage farmers to utilize the LG MIS to source for market information and to be channel for outreach to the wide network of farmers and traders in the district. MIN. OF INFORMATION: promote the use of ICTs to enhance market information awareness among the farmers, like all extension officers. Linking district ICT enablers MIN. OF TRADE : stimulate efforts to enhance trade negotiations and improve market access at the local level and facilitate local trade registration and market linkages within the target sectors.
