Question 5 – How did you attract your audience?

Marketing Tools Our target audience includes a wide variety of age groups. A good method to spread the information about our film for younger age groups is through the internet and to spread the word to older age groups a useful resource is newspapers. I think Television is the best way to make people aware of our film because it is used a lot by everyone so more people will find out about the film so more people will pay to see the film.

Marketing Tools Pull advertising I think a good method for pull advertising is to set up a page for the film on ‘Facebook’. Since ‘Facebook’ has over 1 billion users, it is a very good platform for spreading the word about our new film.

Marketing Tools Push advertising Push advertising such as billboards, posters and T.V. adverts are fairly cheap and very effective methods for getting the film noticed to the public. Since the film is by an independent company the billboards and posters will be very useful if they are placed around local areas.

Marketing Tools Events Special events like T.V. interviews and cast attendance of other events such as awards, media coverage through film festivals and test screenings are very successful for mainstream films but since our film is an independent film it may not be as successful with these methods because people are more interested in big well known actors instead of new-coming talent.

Marketing Tools Attracting an audience We won’t have any big actors that may attract an audience such as ‘Lenoardo DiCaprio’ or ‘Brad Pitt’ and we won’t have any big directors either. However, our distribution company is ‘Lionsgate’ so our distribution company may attract people because it is successful.

Audience Feedback In order to gauge how our opening title sequence addressed our target audience, we showed our film to our target audience and received the following feedback for the categories : -In terms of genre… -Effective mise-en-scene… -Cinematography wise…

Audience Feedback In terms of genre: Our opening title sequence was liked for genre in a variety of ways. It was complemented for narrative, soundtrack choice to create suspense, characters typically representing the genre, title name matching the narrative, and the hidden identity of the antagonist.

Audience Feedback Effective mise-en-scene: Our opening title sequence was complimented for mise-en-scene in multiple ways. These include the locations, costumes, figure expressions of the characters making the scene more realistic, controlled lighting to create the right mood, good use of props such as a gun to represent the antagonist’s personality and the photo’s to represent the past.

Audience Feedback Cinematography wise: Overall there were lots of different points talking about what was good for our opening title sequence cinematography wise. Such as the black and white dull colour effect for the flashbacks, title placement, certain shots such as a good point of view shot, close up of candles, establishing shot of the building, extreme close up of the eye, the knife shot, title fonts, slow motion effect, transitions between videos and titles, good continuity and sound effects.
