Oh the Places We’ll Go, in the Library! Library policies and procedures for K-3

WELCOME TO LIBRARY Enter the library quietly at the entrance door. We ALWAYS use soft voices and soft feet. We ALWAYS use good manners in the library.

Library Rules Return books to the “Return Cart”. Spine out, call number on the bottom. This is important! Never place on the circulation desk. If the lights are off, the library is closed. Students in grades 2-3 may have 2 books checked out. Books must be returned on time. When is your library day? Do you know how to read the Due Date? Where is the Due Date located? A student who has an overdue book may not check out until the book(s) is returned and/or fine is paid.

Library Rules Are you a Book Care Buddy? Take special care of library books! Do not bend the pages Turn the pages carefully Do not get books wet Do not bend the spine Do not write in books The No No Never Never Box

Library Rules Use Good Listening Manners Eyes are watching Ears are listening Mouths are quiet Hands and feet are still Use Good Hand Manners. Raise your hand to share your ideas.

Searching for a Book Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by author’s last name. Non-fiction books are shelved by Dewey number. Place a book you are not checking out on the top shelf or on the “Return Cart” Use rulers to mark your place, return rulers to bucket

Library Rules Checking out at the circulation desk: TOP 10 RULES FOR CHECK OUT 1.Choose a “Just Right” book. Ask for help from your librarian or a friend. 2.Get in line for your library card. You can not check out with someone else’s card. Having a library card is a big responsibility 3.When it is your turn to get library card, return shelf marker to the bucket. 4.Use the table to open book to the back. 5.Place your library card on the back of book. 6.Stand patiently in check out line, talk nicely to others in line with you. 7.Step up to the check out rug, one person at a time on the rug. 8.Return to your assigned table and enjoy your book! Tree house is for the student of the week and one guest. 9.Quietly read or discuss your books with your table partners. 10.When you hear music playing, you have 2 minutes of silent reading. Get ready to line up.

Lining Up Please line-up at the Exit Door Listen for directions Close your books Listen for your table to be called ALWAYS line up in ABC order Follow the line up rules posted at the exit door

Library Rules Computer Rules Computers are used for AR testing, searching the Card Catalog, and Research Activities Students may not use the computers to search the Internet without a librarians’ permission Use the sites provided by the librarian for research projects Be respectful to other students waiting to use the computers Limit computer time when others are waiting Stand and wait quietly in line for your turn on the computer

Library Rules AR Testing Students may test before school and at recess Students may test during library class if time allows Use AR Bookfinder, Quizfinder, or Destiny to search for quiz number (Do not enter by title only! You may take the wrong test!) Know your level. Test on books only on your level for your goal No talking during testing
