Finding the Missing Value

Julie would like to have a 90% average in Mr. Frommann’s math class. So far she has taken 4 tests and received the following scores… 85%, 91%, 92%, 85% What is the lowest grade she can earn on the 5 th test if she wants to reach her goal?

There are two ways that you can go about solving a question like this… 1) Guess and Check a) Guess the number b) Plug it in and see if it works c) Make adjustments based on your results 2) Create an algebraic equation and solve for the variable

Jason Pominville has scored the following number of goals in his NHL career… 18, 34, 27, 20, 24 He wants to make his career average 30 goals per season. How many goals will Jason Pominville need to score next year in order to reach his goal exactly?

The average IQ for residents of the USA is approximately 100 (144 is the maximum and is considered genius level). Miss Breier recently gave 6 of her students an IQ test and they received the following scores… 99, 123, 87, 101, 123, 102 If she were to give a 7 th student the same test, what is the score they would have to earn if they wanted to be at least an “average” class?
