1 Lesson 2-2 Solving Inequalities by Adding or Subtracting
Obj: The student will be able to 1) Solve one-step inequalities by using addition 2) Solve one-step inequalities by using subtraction HWK: p even, all

2 Properties of Inequality
Addition Property of Inequality – You can add the same number to both sides of an inequality and the statement will still be true. Arithmetic Algebra 3 < if a < b so 3+ 2 < then a + c < b + c Subtraction Property of Inequality – You can subtract the same number from both sides of an inequality and the statement will still be true. 9 < if a < b so 9 – 5 < 12 – then a – c < b – c (these properties also work for >, ≤, and ≥)

3 Solve each inequality and graph the solutions
Ex 1) x + 9 < Ex 2) d – 3 > Ex 3) x + 1 ≤ 10

4 Ex 4) The memory in Tenea’s camera phone allows her to take up to 20 pictures. Tenea has already taken 16 pictures. Write, solve, and graph an inequality to show how many more pictures she could take. (explain your information)

5 Ex 5) Josh can bench press 220 pounds
Ex 5) Josh can bench press 220 pounds. He wants to bench press at least 250 pounds. Write and solve an inequality to determine how many more pounds Josh must lift to reach his goal. Check your answer.
