The Cheetah By Nicole Zimmermann

Characteristics Cientific name: Acinonyx jubatus Family: Felidae Size: 30 inches at the shoulder Weight: 110 to 140 pounds Habitat: open areas

Where It Lives The cheetah is inhabiting most of Africa and parts of the Middle East. Cheetahs are found in southern and eastern Africa with Namibia having the largest population of about 2,500. Their range is confined to narrowing islands of savanna and similar vegetation zones south of the Sahara. A relic population of a few hundred may exist in the northern Arabian Peninsula and Northwest Afghanistan.

What do it eat? Cheetahs are carnivores, which means they eat other animals. So they eat usually animals like: zebras and wildebeests. When they hunt in packs they often take adult zebras and wildebeests The springbok, the impala, the Thomson’s Gazelle and the Grant’s Gazelle are cheetahs favorite food. http://animalfunnypictures.blogspot.com/2011/07/african -animals-of-cheetahs-hunting.html

What It Looks Like? The cheetahs are beautiful animals and very interestig. Is a large-sized feline It has a very striking skin It has long tail, short ears and cute eyes.

Social Behaviors Cheetah's are the only large cats that do not roar. However, they are able to purr, which is common when greeting a known individual. When showing aggression they will lower their head below shoulder level. When fighting each other, cheetah usually don't use their teeth. If they do bite, they will only bite the legs and never the throat. When greeting familiar cheetahs they will use behaviors that many people observe dogs doing.

Other Interesting Facts The cheetah, however, achieves by far the fastest land speed of any living animal—between 112 and 120 km/h. The lion is said to be majestic, the leopard ferocious and shrewd. But elegant and graceful best describes the cheetah. The cheetah is smaller than the other two cats, but by far the fastest at speeds of 70 miles per hour it can run faster than all other animals.
