Community Service By: Sebastien Priscilla May Rainwater Gwinner

What did I do for Community Service?? Shamrock Bowl (Flag football tournament) Relay For Life Car Wash

What is the Shamrock Bowl? Every year Kappa Delta ladies from around the U.S. raise money to support Prevent Child Abuse in America. Different chapters raise the money by doing different tournaments; KD’s Gamma Mu chapter here at Valdosta does the flag football tournament. Each year our chapter raise around 12,000 dollars and donates ALL of it to Prevent Child Abuse America.

The tournament Cost $100 dollars a team. The tournament was double elimination. There were teams from Valdosta as well as other colleges in Georgia. My team name was SOAP and we ended up winning the tournament.

The atmosphere of the tournament Most of the people from the other teams were relaxed and just wanted to have some fun. In between games most people just relaxed in the shade because it felt like it was 90 degrees when we were playing.

Relay for Life Relay for life is to raise money for The American Cancer Society. Took place on the front lawn at VSU on April 13, 2007.

Our Team I was on the FYE team and our tent’s theme was Hang Out Cancer To Dry. To raise money we tie died towels for $ 5 and wash clothes for $ 3.

2 nd place and Miss Congeniality I raised 86 dollars doing the beauty pageant.

Why I Participate in Community Service At first I only participated in community service because it was a requirement for the class but after having so much fun raising money for other people I realized that I was making a difference in other peoples life. I believe that community service helps build character. Next year I will definitely participate in Relay For Life again because I had a blast doing it.
