Dictionary Usage Sometimes studying involves looking words up in a dictionary. You many need to see if you have spelled a word correctly. You may want to check a word meaning. A dictionary provides four important pieces of information: 1) the correct spelling, 2)pronunciation, 3) meanings, and 4) usage of words.

Alphabetizing Alphabetizing, or recognizing the alphabetical order of things, is an essential skill necessary to better utilize the dictionary. When the first letter of a group of words is different, alphabetizing is simple; you only have to look at that first letter.
