Agenda Q-Advisor Architecture and Overview System Administration Network Probe Configuration and Management Reporting

Q-Advisor Architecture and Overview Graphical User Interface is browser based for easy access from anywhere on the network. Multiple access, user/group/password security for tests and result data. RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 Operating System MySQL 5 Relational DataBase Scalability is ensured SOAP/XML Northbound and Southbound interfaces for integration with other systems. Flexible collection of results from multiple tests and sources—low impact on the network. To Other OSS Q-AgentVoice KPIVideo KPIData KPI Web Services Alarms Collector Web Client RDBMS

Basic Connectivity Q-Advisor Server Management Network eth0 Test Network eth1 Q-xxx Network Probe

Log Into the Q-Advisor Using a Browser Open a browser window from the desktop of a PC connected to the Q-Advisor, then enter the following Web address: :8080/q-advisor Log in using the default username root and password imedia, then click the Login button. Note: The password is case-sensitive

Q-Advisor Main Screen Main Menu Bar SLM and KPI Status Latest Alarms Q-Advisor System Status Network Probes Status

Main Menu Bar The Main Menu Bar consists of drop down menus organized by function: System Admin: All tasks necessary to configure and manage the Q-Advisor Q-Probe: All tasks necessary to configure and manage the network probes IPTV: All tasks necessary to create and run IPTV tests, and manage the results VoIP/SIP: All tasks necessary to create and run VoIP and SIP tests, and manage the results Data: All tasks necessary to create and run Data tests, and manage the results Note: The IPTV, VoIP/SIP and Data menus follow the same structure and are self-contained Symmetricom offers separate QuickStarts for the IPTV, VoIP/SIP, and Data applications

Network Probes

Network Probe Activity Select Q-Probe>Management to see the status of the network probes. You can configure a test using any network probe that shows a status of UP. Additional information on the network probes is available by clicking on the link. Probe Identity and Location Version Numbers Probe Time Source, Software Release, Configuration and Ports Probe Event Logs

Network Probe Updates Network Probes are remotely managed and updated. To update the Network Probe Software: Select all the Network Probes to be updated, using the check boxes First, browse to the “Application” update file on your workstation, named: netapp xx-tar.gz select it, and hit the button After approximately one minute, the network probe will automatically restart (verify by the network probe Status changing from DOWN to UP) Next, browse to the “Kernel” update file on your workstation, named: kernel xx-tar.gz select it, and hit the button Finally, reboot the Network Probe by hitting the button. Verify the changes by clicking on the link, and checking the Application and Kernel Version Numbers.

Network Probe Discovery To find the probes, pick Q-Probe>Discovery from the menu bar. Enter the IP address range for the probes. Note: subnet masks will allow the discovery of multiple probes. Click Start Auto-Discovery. Q-Advisor will discover the Q-xxx Network Probes, display them as they are found, and stop by itself.

Network Probe Configuration - Ports

Network Probe Configuration – Time Source

Reporting - Scheduling Reports are created, scheduled, and automatically run every day, week or month. Options are: address for report recipients Schedule: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Paper format: Letter or A4

Set the Q-Advisor's Local Time Log into the Q-Advisor (shell, not GUI) as root. Navigate to /usr/share/zoneinfo (cd /usr/share/zoneinfo ). Select the continent and city pair that best matches your location, such as Europe and Roma. Copy the time zone to the system. For example, for Europe and Roma, enter cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Roma /etc/localtime Update the java environment by completing the following: Add the time information to the /etc/profile file. For example, for Europe and Roma, enter export TZ=“Europe/Roma" Enter the following to execute the change:. /etc/profile service tomcat stop service tomcat start Log into the Q-Advisor GUI, select System Admin > Setup >Q-Advisor; select Local vs. UTC Time; click the Update button. Verify that the change occurred by checking the Server Date updated on your Q-Advisor (System Admin > Scheduler) is the easiest place to check To change the local time in the Q-Advisor, use a monitor and keyboard, or a SSH (Secure Shell) connection, to the server and follow the steps below.

Backup the Q-Advisor Database To backup the Q-Advisor database called qosmetrix_v40 in a file named backup: Note: Make sure no test scenarios are running and all users are logged off before proceeding. Using a keyboard and monitor, or an SSH connection to the Q-Advisor, log in as root. At the # prompt, enter: # mysqldump –unetadvsr –pimedia123 qosmetrix_v40 > backup To restore a Q-Advisor database backup from a file named backup: Prepare mysql first: # mysql –unetadvsr -pimedia123 qosmetrix_v40 -A mysql> drop database qosmetrix_v40 mysql> create database qosmetrix_v40 mysql> quit Bye Then, perform the restore: # mysql –unetadvsr –pimedia123 qosmetrix_v40

Change the IP Address for Eth0 Login in as root Enter cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts Enter vi ifcfg-eth0 In the eth0 file, change the network, netmask, gateway, and IP address as required for your network. The following shows example entries: DEVICE=eth0 #BOOTPROTO=dhcp BOOTPROTO=static ONBOOT=yes BROADCAST= IPADDR= NETMASK= NETWORK= GATEWAY= Save the file, and then restart the network: service network restart NOTE: You’ll need to use a monitor, keyboard, and vi editor to complete this procedure.
