When you grieving you may feel…  Agitated or angry  Concentrating, eating, and sleeping difficult  You might feel guilty  You may have sudden outbursts of crying

The Grieving Process  The journey to recovery after a loss  5 stages  Not everyone goes through all of stage or through the stages in the same order

5 Stages of Grieving Process  1. Denial – the person refused to believe the loss occurred  2. Anger – experiencing anger or even rage is normal; you may try to blame yourself or others, use anger management skills

Grieving Process Continued….  3. Bargaining – the final attempt at avoiding what is true  4. Depression – sadness is a natural & important emotion to express; if longer than a few days tell an adult

Grieving Process Continued……  5. Acceptance – during this stage, you begin to learn how to live with a loss. The loss continues to be painful, yet you know you will get through it

Wake  A ceremony that is held to allow family and friends to view or watch over the deceased person before the funeral  Viewing the body of the deceased can help people friends and family accept death

Funeral  A ceremony in which a deceased person is buried or cremated  Offers family & friends opportunity to pay tribute to the loved one  Cremated – to burn the body by intense heat

Memorial Service  A ceremony that provides the same opportunity to mourn the deceased but these services can take place long after the death of a loved one  May also present a memorial or structure to remember the deceased

Help for Dealing with Loss  Get plenty of rest and relaxation, but try to stick to routines  Share memories and thoughts about the deceased  Express your feelings by crying, or writing in a journal  Do not blame yourself

Helping Others with Loss  Show your support by offering to run errands or cook a meal  Let the person know you are there for them if they need to talk  Tell the person you have faith in them that they are strong and will learn to live with the loss

Helping Others….  If the person seems depressed, avoids family and friends, or doesn’t seem to be making any progress, tell a TRUSTED ADULT.
