3 Different Kinds of Loss: Whenever you experience loss, you feel sorrow. The greatest sorrow usually occurs when a loved one dies. This leads to a feeling of grief. Pg. 37

4 Five stages that people experience when they face death have been identified: -Stage 1: Denial -Stage 2: Anger -Stage 3: Bargaining -Stage 4: Depression -Stage 5: Acceptance Pg. 37

5 Hospice Care The goal of hospice care is to provide support, relief from pain, and comfort for dying people and their families. Most often, hospice care is provided in the patient’s home to maintain peace, comfort, and dignity. Pg. 37

6 The Grief Process: Grief often has stages similar to the stages of death. -Shock -Anger -Yearning -Depression -Moving On Pg. 37

7 Coping with the Death of a Loved One Grieving people often need to share their feelings with others. Grief counselors can help people cope with their loss. Grief counselors may suggest these coping strategies: -Remember what was good about the person. -Don’t run away from your feelings. -Share your feelings with others. -Join a support group. Pg. 38
