Step By Step

Materials : Paper Pencil Eraser Oil pastels

 Ask your friend to pose for your portrait during this exercise.

Step 1: Sketching a simple outline

Step 2: Sketching the details With a pencil, lightly sketch in:  eyes,  circles for nose,  lips, and  hair.

Lightly sketch in neck, shoulders, shirt and parts of arms.

Erase unnecessary lines.

Step 3: Filling in colors Find an oil pastel that is close to the skin color of the person in your portrait. Color in the face and neck.

Find oil pastels closest to the hair, lips and eye colors of the person in your portrait. Lightly color them in. Color in the shirt.

Step 4: Shading and highlighting

Step 5: Adding finishing touches
