Silesia it is a region of interesting nature, of rich heritage and with an abundant cultural life. We live in Czerwionka-Leszczyny. Our the nearest town is Rybnik. Let’s start our trip just in this place.

Rybnik is a city in southern Poland in the Silesian Voivodeship, close to the border with the Czech Republic, about 290 km south of Warsaw and about 100 km west of Kraków, on the southern outskirts of the metropolitan area known as the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. CZERWIONKA-LESZCZYNY

Sights worth visiting: the neo-gothic basilica of St. Anthony the building of the former district authority (1887), the neo-classical new town hall (1928), the neo-classical old town hall with clock-tower, today housing the registry office and the museum of local history,

the Church of St. Catherine (1534), the Church of St. Lawrence (1717), a late Baroque estate house (1736), a Piast castle from the early 13th century, completely redesigned in the 18th century.

In 1957 was created museum. Peole wanted to collect various mementos of our forefathers.

Nowadays there are over different things connected with people’s life in Upper Silesia from the earliest years to the present time.

When we say about artistic heritage in Upper Silesia we must show regional painting. There are some amateur painters, we want to introduce: Paweł Stolorz, Paweł Wróbel, Ewald Gawlik and Erwin Sówka. They show picturesque views of Silesia and Silesians’everyday life.

Vibrant colours, simple shapes of buildings and a lot of details characterise Paweł Wróbel’s paintings. He is compared to Brueghel.

Ewald Gawlik was fascinated Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings. He was named Van Gogh from Nikisz.

Paweł Stolorz was painted with watercolours. Some of his paintings are connected with Nikifor Krynicki’s work.

Erwin Sówka refer to coal miners’legends and kulture of the Ancient East.
