Abraham Lincoln Movie of 2012

13 th Amendment The 13 th Amendment to the constitution declared that “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction.” Formally abolishing slavery in the United States, the 13 th Amendment was passed by the congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified by the states on December 6,

The 15 th Amendment The Constitution granted African American men the right to vote by declaring that the “right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” Although ratified on February 3, 1870, the promise of the 15 th Amendment would not be fully realized for all most a century. Through the use of poll taxes, literacy tests and other means, southern states were able to effectively disenfranchise African Americans. It would take the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 before the majority of African Americans in the South were registered to vote amendment.html. amendment.html

Personal Thoughts About The Movie of Abraham Lincoln Movie of 2012 This movie was produced by Steven Spielberg this movie to me helped me understand how this amendment helped African American people. The 13 th Amendment was set fourth to abolish slavery and this was accomplished by Abraham Lincoln it is because of Lincoln that I can get an education and reach my goals of becoming a Social Worker. I thank him for this because although we still live in a world where there are mixed emotions about the African American race I feel that President Abraham Lincoln paved the way for me to embrace my dreams of becoming a Social Worker.

Personal Thought About the 15 th Amendment This Amendment was produced so that African American men could have the right to vote, but as I was looking at the movie Lincoln I realized that back then how could African American men vote if the majority of them could not read, it hurts my heart to know that the majority of African American’s were denied the opportunity to an education back then. I do applaud all my ancestors that fought for the right to vote, education, and to be treated with dignity and respect without African American’s going through these things I think about where would I be today. I don’t think that I would be in college trying to achieve my dream of becoming a Social Worker at Marygrove do you.
