Terms to tackle: Title Compass Rose Scale Legend Locator Map Of the terms listed below, are there any you already know? Talk with your neighbor about definitions you’re familiar with! Map Essentials Set up your paper to take Cornell notes! Terms to tackle: Title Compass Rose Scale Legend Locator Map

Compass Rose Title The map title shows what the subject of the map is. A compass rose has arrows that point to all four principal directions: north, south, east, and west. This is the title! Keep in mind that north is not always up on a map!

It’s All About Perspective! Act as if you are the star and you are looking at the US at each different perspective. It’s All About Perspective! 1. 3. YOU Which way is north? East? South? YOU 2. YOU

Legend A legend, or key, explains what the symbols represent on a map.

Map Scales Scales represent the distances between points on a map. Scales give distances in miles and kilometers. Use your map and practice finding the distances between two states of your choice. This is the scale!

Locator Map A locator map shows where in the world the area on a map is located. A locator map is basically a map that looks at a location from a more zoomed out perspective.

Recapitulate! Take some time to recap some of the information we discussed. I’m looking for 6-8 GREAT sentences.
