Muscle Anatomy

Muscle Anatomy Three types of muscles 12 basic muscles

Voluntary- Those muscles that can be moved by our thoughts and actions. Involuntary- Reflex action is made without our thought. Cardiac- The muscle of the heart Ex: This muscle is constantly working automatically without thought or reflex being needed. Without this cardiac functioning muscle, we die! Types of Muscles

Muscle Anatomy Gastrocnemius- the largest muscle in the calf of the leg, the action of which extends the foot, raises the heel, and assists in bending the knee. Basic exercise: toe/calf raises

Muscle Anatomy Biceps- The biceps is a muscle on the front part of the upper arm. Basic exercise: Arm curls Triceps- a muscle having three heads or points of origin, especially the muscle on the back of the arm Basic Exercise: arm extensions

Muscle Anatomy Latissimus Dorsi- a broad, flat muscle on each side of the mid-back, the action of which draws the arm backward and downward and rotates the front of the arm toward the body. Basic exercise: lat pull down

Muscle Anatomy Hamstrings- any of the muscles/tendons that bound the bend of the knee. Basic exercise: leg curls Quadriceps- The large four-part extensor muscle at the front of the thigh. Basic Exercise: leg extension Gluteus- any of the large muscles of the buttocks Basic exercise: lunges

Muscle Anatomy Pectorals- Refers to the broad band of muscles that extend across the chest Basic exercise: bench press Deltoids- a large, triangular muscle covering the joint of the shoulder, the action of which raises the arm away from the side of the body. Basic Exercise: Shoulder press Trapezius-flat muscle on each side of the upper and back part of the neck, shoulders Basic exercise: shoulder shrugs

Muscle Anatomy Abdominals- The abdominal muscles are a group of 6 muscles that extend from the lower ribs to the pelvis. They provide movement and support to the trunk, often called the core. Basic Exercise: Curl ups Obliques- muscles on the side of the upper body that help to assist in turning the body from side to side. Basic exercise: side leg lift

Correctly label your own muscle man on the diagram provided. Glue or tape into your notebook on the output side. Muscle Anatomy
