SEPTEMBER 1, 2010 MIDDLE SCHOOL COHORT MEETING Welcome Back!

Do now… Roll of the Dice With your table group:  One person will roll the die. If it lands on 1, each person in the group will verbally answer question #1. If it lands on #2, answer question #2, etc. Take turns rolling the die until everyone has rolled at least once. 1 = My biggest success thus far has been… 2= What has surprised me the most is… 3= What has worked best for me in my classroom is… 4=My biggest challenge thus far has been… 5= What I’ve enjoyed the most thus far has been… 6= Whether “they” told me or not, I never believed that…

What I noticed the first couple weeks… About us…we have lots of similarities!  Kids engaged!!!!  EU’s and EQ’s posted… and referring back to them  Greetings at the door  Do now’s, bell ringers, BOCA… and kids were doing it!

What I Noticed The First Couple Weeks…  Student choice (books, scenarios)  Smiling (teachers and kids!) – relationships  Technology (Smartboards that the kids were using… and fixing!)  Probing questions (tell me more about that, is there a different way?, how do you know?)

What I Noticed The First Couple Weeks… Movement (10:2, Chunk and Chew) Feedback – specific (teacher/student and student/student) Norms developed and posted… some even had consequences!

Our Norms… As a cohort group, we agree to… 1.) Honor confidentiality 2.) Provide moral support through keeping an open mind, engaging in active listening, while refraining from passing judgement 3.) Use our time wisely and efficiently 4.) To the best of our abilities, provide a comfortable environment conducive to learning… with food and drinks and humor 5.) Be honest and respectful with each other
