Break Dengue in a Nutshell

WHAT WE WILL DO? Joint all forces against Dengue Leverage the power of social movements Be a pilot for other NTD fighting initiatives Combat Dengue on a global scale

BREAK DENGUE Enable a worldwide community of people / institutions united around a common goal: fight Dengue Give it visibility thanks to a high profile alliance support Aggregate the social conversation on dengue thanks to a digital platform Impact the disease, by connecting on-line & off-line dengue prevention activities worldwide

OUR GOAL & VISION 1.Connect globally 2.Create and share knowledge 3.Measure 4.Identify new solutions and models 5.Incubate and bring new solutions to life ACT MEASURE CONNECT SHARE

Health authorities Local communities Expert groups International Stakeholders Education authorities One Alliance Other companies CREATE A COMMON GOAL –> BREAK DENGUE Different questions, one hub CONNECT

SCIENTIFIC DELIVERABLES Increased understanding of disease and control methods One Narrative 4 Main Types of Deliverables - all fed by ONE Narrative SUPPORT TO POLICY ACTIVITIES Tools and data to feed policy activities Improved implementation of activities thanks to aggregated, active audience COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Sustained switch to active mode against Dengue STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT A motivation for stakeholders to share their knowledge at a global scale

Collect & share real time data to track trends & better anticipate the virus.

DENGUE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

From dialogue to hard deliverables Facilitate the launch of global and local pilot projects around the globe: testing, learning, sharing and going global. eg. Development of a Standardized Global Dengue Epidemiology Database

TARGETED OUTCOMES 1.A globally coordinated dialog 2.Global community 3.Crowd knowledge 4.New measure 5.New solutions 6.Data, observations and models to support policy activities 7.A model for other neglected diseases ACT MEASURE CONNECT SHARE

IN THE COMING MONTHS MILESTONE 1: Formalize an organizational framework MILESTONE 2: Identify the right partners and successfully get them on board MILESTONE 3: Complete setup process, operational & other structures MILESTONE 4: Provide resources to the board of directors, enabling work to get done

PROPOSED STRUCTURE - STRUCTURE Board of Directors Advisory Scientific Council Operational Team Active Members Supporting Members Executive Body Implementation Body Experts (no voting rights) General Assembly (voting rights for all members) 1 rotating active member Members appointed by BoD Attend the General Assembly (no voting right except for the rotating member) Advisor to BoD Advisor to BoD

FUNDING STRUCTURE 1.Membership fees – kept to the minimum 2.Grants – allowing members funding based on interest 3.Crowd funding – for smaller and local initiatives 4.Donations & contributions – from the community at large

WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY (OR SOON) 1.Vaccines to vaccination (v2V) group of experts 2.Dengue epidemiological data gathering and standardization 3.Collaborative knowledge sharing tool (see appendix 1) Alliance in constructionwww.BreakDengue.org

ABOUT THE SYNERGIST ASBL Enabling positive change Pools together resources, comms assets and expertise to deal with pertinent healthcare issues on a global level Offer an ecosystem that will: host, connect, stimulate and empower causes and projects  Aim to serve as catalysts for change  Be innovative and find new solutions  Share resources  Learn from each initiative

Appendix 1 Knowledge platform

The Knowledge Sharing Platform a scientific wiki integrated to a scientific community

THE NEED Scientific research reports are usually compiled and posted in a single and static place Visibility is low, updates are difficult. Those files become obsolete pretty fast, get lost and unseen

THE SOLUTION Establish a knowledge ecosystem which combines the “Wikipedia-approach” of knowledge sharing, with the high interactivity of social media platforms Result is: An online platform filled with high-quality scientific information on all formats (text, pictures, videos, sound), populated and visited by health experts and knowledge-seekers alike An interactive solution, bringing science knowledge to life, generating returning members and dynamic up to date content An expandable model A shared development cost
