Capitalize on Your Unique Communication Style Katie B. Smith Executive Coach

Communication is Key Understanding personal communication styles can enhance the clarity and precision of your conversations. In teams and groups, when each member understands the styles of other participants, collaboration becomes part of the group’s mission and purpose.

Communication Strategies Strategies you can implement with: yourself your team your clients to communicate more effectively and gain greater results with more ease and less time.

Background Influential events and valuable lessons in my life led to being an Executive Coach.

The 4 Communication Styles Directing Style Mediating Style Presenting Style Strategizing Style

Communication Styles The PCSI is a tool to assess your communication style and provide pointers on how to best communicate with others for better results. * This inventory is not a psychological or personality tool. * It is intended to be a self-inventory where people designate how they want to give and receive feedback and advice.

The Benefits Of The PCSI® It provides a short, simple snapshot of unique styles that can change over time. It provides a means for building rapport by flexing styles. It gives individuals a way to interact more easily with each other. It can eliminate miscommunications. It gives you a framework for understanding people. It fosters respect for unique differences. IT BUILDS ON STRENGTHS, NOT WEAKNESSES.

Awareness Without awareness of what we are saying and doing, we can’t change our thinking or our behavior. Get honest with yourself about what communication strengths you have and what areas you want to build on.

Dialogue about the Styles What did you learn about yourself? Was there anything that surprised you? What did you learn about your strengths/liabilities?

Directing Style 18% of the Population Lead others to learn to develop options. Resist the inclination to provide all options for them. Provide options they do not see. Director Song: I Did It My Way FAMOUS DIRECTOR STYLES Donald Trump Tiger Woods Rush Limbaugh Michael Jordan Queen Elizabeth II

Mediating Style 40% of the Population Mediators are creative. They are encouraged if their creativity is acknowledged. Mediating Song: People Who Need People FAMOUS MEDIATOR STYLES Martin Luther King Gandhi Princess Diana Mother Theresa Jimmy Carter

Presenting Style 28% of the Population You may have numerous ideas, but the people you motivate may have ideas too. Give them the opportunity to discover new things. Presenting Song: Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog FAMOUS PRESENTER STYLES Jay Leno Bill Clinton Herb Kelleher (Southwest Airlines) Robin Williams (public persona)

Strategizing Style 14% of the Population You will be able to quickly identify what is missing. People may ask you for your ideas because of your thoughtful approach. Strategizing Song: One is the Loneliest Number FAMOUS STRATEGIST STYLES Bill Gates Al Gore Spock (Star Trek) Joe Friday (Dragnet TV show)
