Key conclusions from Equality for Women… Conclusions of chapter 2—see p. 79  Expanded set of indicators adds information (and value)  Rapid progress in expanding women’s capabilities, with some notable exceptions: o Enrolment rates, completion rates, literacy are success stories o Less progress on under five mortality, adolescent pregnancy and teenage births  Comparison of country performance to regional benchmarks is quite useful

World Bank efforts to improve gender statistics and indicators New/improved Bank publications and data sets:  New GenderStats database and website  Little Data Book on Gender (forthcoming)  Update of gender indicators database associated with2007 Global Monitoring Report Improve the quality of gender-disaggregated indicators:  Develop modules for household surveys to better measure assets owned by women  Pilot-test different approaches to capture female labor force participation in labor force and household surveys

Increase national and international agency capacity to collect, report, analyze and use gender-disaggregated data:  Provide technical assistance to improve existing national surveys  Support data collection by national statistics offices on formal and informal employment in selected countries (joint with UNSD)  Support global gender statistics networks

 A results monitoring and evaluation framework has been prepared  A baseline portfolio review is being completed  A GAP mid-term evaluation will be completed in 2009 to review the overall direction, framework, strategies and processes used to implement the GAP  A final evaluation will be conducted after the GAP is completed (2011).
