Why Now? Why Topic and Focus? Online learning the biggest trend in higher education in past decade. Growth: 20% per annum for over a decade CUNY has been very slow to this game Interest in hybrid/online reaching a critical mass and critical stage of development Early ad-hoc approaches on campuses are evolving into more focused, planned strategies for hybrid/online

Why Now? Why Topic and Focus? continued In strategic interest of colleges and the university to explore SP for hybrid/online Online learning is a a strategic asset and needs to be properly administered Potential: Equivalent to 2-3 campuses in teaching/learning impact CUNY-wide Online has to potential to help transform teaching and learning at many institutions, including CUNY "Disruptive technology/ application" Can be an agent for change on campuses

Survey Focus and Methodology Survey distributed to CAO and/ or technology director per campus Looking for the "point-person" on each campus that decides hybrid/online policy 20 campuses solicited, 17 responded Still not too late if your campus has not participated Enough participation to make survey valid, indicative of trends

Areas Addressed by Survey (24 Q's) Note: The term online also includes hybrid teaching Who is planning online teaching at campuses? Is there a formal strategic plan in place for this process? What is the process for creating online policy? If there is a plan for online, what areas does it cover? Is the campus environment receptive to online? What are some implementation issues? Commitment " If you don't make a total commitment to whatever you're doing, then you start looking to bail out the first time the boat starts leaking. It's tough enough to get that boat ashore with everyone rowing, let alone when a guy stands up and starts putting his life jacket on". Lou Holtz, football coach and motivational speaker
