Spotlight on Employment Marriott Griffin Gate Lexington, KY February 27, 2014

Before you go, prepare ahead Check out the fairs’ websites’ list of registered recruiters; decide which you plan to talk with. Research your top picks’ websites to learn about them and their hiring needs. Develop a short “commercial” show them why you’re interested and how you’re a fit for them. Print about copies of your résumé, tailored to your targeted employers. Carry your resumes and notes in a portfolio folder to keep them neat and organized.

Entrance to CCE

Entrance to Spotlight

Review the companies and plan your strategy before you begin.

Tell friends what you’re looking for so they can let you know about additional opportunities.

Practice with one or two before you talk to the recruiters you are targeting.

Look for signs advertising internships.

Recruiters are usually easy to talk to and enthusiastic.

They like to speak to as many people as possible, so they are always glad to have you stop by.

Give your “Elevator Pitch”: point out key items on your résumé and tell them why their opening interests you.

Tell them what you already know about their organization.

If you ask them questions, you will stand out from the crowd.

Most recruiters will sell their organization to you, tell you what they looking for, and ask questions.

Point out key aspects of your résumé so they will save it and remember you.

If you would like to have a chance to have an additional interview, be sure to say so.

The whole conversation generally lasts about minutes.

Take time to fill out an evaluation of CCE afterward through Survey Monkey: you’ll be entered into a drawing for one of two $50 door prizes.
