Presentation transcript:

 Each student is required to participate in the Science Fair this school year.  You may work in groups of no more than 3 students in your group.  A copy of the rubric and due dates is the second page of your packet.

 You will be provided with a letter to inform your parents of your required participation.  Each student must have this letter signed and dated by their parent/guardian before being able to participate.  A student who fails to provide this documentation will not be permitted to participate and will receive grades of zero for each assignment linked to the science fair project.  You will also have to have a student checklist and parent consent form on file with your science teacher before performing your experiment.

 Upon the completion of your project, each student must complete a peer evaluation form for each member of their group. This grade will be a test grade.  For groups of 3, the average of the two evaluation forms will determine the grade.

 * 9/29/10 : Topic of Interest and Hypothesis Form (3 Quiz Grades)  10/4/10 : Research Plan (3 Quiz Grades)  10/20/10: Abstract ( 1 Test Grade )  10/25/10 Final Project ( 3 Test Grades)

 Select 2 topics of interest.  Complete a one page paper providing background information about your subject matter. If necessary use this to make your project more specific.  Compose a hypothesis statement in an if/then format. (Include your independent and dependent variables in this portion)

 A student or group choosing to use live animals or people will be required to complete additional paperwork to participate in the science fair.  This documentation will be provided by your instructor if necessary.

 Students may attend tutorials to get assistance with their science fair projects.  Unless the experiment requires that a student be in a laboratory setting, student(s) will complete the project outside of school.  This is a student effort that shows his/her ability to implement the scientific method not your instructors.

 You have been provided with a graphic organizer to organize the sections in your research plan.  The criteria and rubric for this portion of your project.  After submitting your research plan, you will be responsible for completing a student checklist and your parents will sign a consent form. This has to be completed before performing your experiment.

 You will need to keep a journal of all the events that took place during your experiment. This should include procedures, data, observations, and results.

 This will completed after your experiment. It is a synopsis of the entire experiment.  The criteria are in your science fair packet.  After which, you will organize your experiment on to your display board.
