Promoting the Study of Mathematics by using Internet Resources in the Technology and Engineering Classroom By: Bethany Bugg

Technology, Engineering, and Math are interconnected. You must fully comprehend your content to teach it. Some students will be anxious when doing math. As the teacher, you must make learning Math fun! Just as students must practice math, the teacher must practice teaching it.

When a teacher is confident in his/her math skills his/her students will be confident in theirs. Students need to feel CAPABLE, CONFIDENT, and COMFORTABLE with math. Students need to understand they use math in their daily lives.

Games and Math: Siegler and Ramani conducted a study where students played a counting board game. Students played it four times in a two week period. Student’s knowledge of math increased greatly after playing this game. Both teachers and parents should use math games for their kids.

Math Game 5/counting-to-5.html 5/counting-to-5.html This game reinforces your student’s abilities to count to five. Excellent tool for both student and teacher. This game is based on Common Core Math Standards. CCSS Math Content K.CC.A.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.

Resources There are a multitude of resources for Math and Technology. Games can be used to reinforce math skills for your students. Many diverse technologies can be used in your classroom such as the Smart Board, iPads, and computers.

Technology in the Classroom Technology can be implemented in all content areas such as Math, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Science, and Social Studies. Students will remember the lessons with the fun interactive technology. You can also use technology for your ing parents, grades, and a teacher website.

First Grade First graders can use technology to learn. First graders learn how to practice concepts of ones and tens in the place value number system, and add and subtract small numbers.

Second Grade Second graders learn simple multiplication problems, measuring length, classifying shapes, counting money and change, and telling time. Using the Smart Board your students can practice by playing games.

Games for Learning Third graders practice adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, length, perimeter, area, and time.

Reflection Points Technology is key for teachers to implement in their classrooms. Technology can be a tool to learn the common core. I believe that technology is a tool for learning but should not be used solely by itself. Every student learns differently some are better visual learners, some auditory, and others learn best kinesthetically. All students can benefit from technology based lessons.
