SHAPE UP IN TURKU Projects at schools

Lauste school Project of health education: Healthy nutrition Stresses more on common health and well-being than obesity In collaboration with school health care and school kitchen personnel Children will work the theme on various subjects (health education, environmental education, mother tongue, drawing)

Pääskyvuori school SU is not a separate or new project, but more like a tool in planning and promoting schools physical activity and healthy life style. SU will also be linked to European Network of Health Promoting schools (ENHPS) All the classes, teachers, other personnel, parents etc. will be participating SU one way or another Aim is to create a system through which each student/class can contribute to planning and organising schools PA and health education PA trail which can be followed by each class during the school year All the accomplishments will be pulled together in a schools portfolio Pääskyvuori on the move. It will be given to all pupils and in the future to all 1st graders. IVAC-method is used in pulling the portfolio together: children will select and investigate the themes and the ways of approaching them The portfolio is the final product of the process, the way of making the process visible, the way of making the local community aware of their ideas but the main target are the pupils and their parents

Kick-off at Pääskyvuori school Disco organised by the pupils, teachers and kitchen personnel with the idea of giving tips of health menu for children's parties. Kick off was reported by the local media (main newspaper + local TV)

Vasaramäki school A parliament of students is being constituted –Each of SU classes choose 1-2 representatives –Aim is to prepare projects and activities connected to wellbeing at school

Runosmäki school Theme of the project: oral hygiene high quality of dental care is taken for granted children don't wash their teeth as before School wants to point out the connection between oral hygiene, eating habits and obesity School will use the IVAC-method in studying these connections

Klassikko school Background: Launching of a new community partnership (schools, city, enterprises, other partners) in Turku to promote children's and young peoples wellbeing and enjoyment at school School of Klassikko is the only secondary school (ages 13-16) in Turku SU project. Schools SU project will be the process of defining wellbeing from young peoples perspective and creating a structure and operational culture for schools in order to involve young people in this new community partnership Young people will be in an active role in new partnership project and Klassikko school will do the ground work for this through SU
