Monitoring and diagnosis of cotton virus diseases Head of the Project : Dr. Kadirova Z. Academy of Sciences of Republic of Uzbekistan Institute of Genetics and Plant Experimental Biology

Revealing and identification of cotton viruses, characterization of the most important representatives, developing diagnostic methodologies and searching methods against them. Objectives:

Tasks: monitoring of virus diseases on cotton plantations, revealing and identification of the most harmful viruses among them, improving diagnostic methods based on DNA marking, screening cotton germplazm on resistance to virus infections, developing methods against them.

Expected results: Studying of adaptable opportunities of the cotton genepool, estimation and selection of new perspective initial materials for genetic and breeding research and transfer to their breeders, and also a germplasm exchange between research institutes.

Proposed activities within the framework of the project: Researches will be conducted in several directions in collaboration with specialists in immunology, entomology, breeding, gene engineering and other specialists. Stages of project realization: 1 st stage. Phytosanitaric monitoring of cotton plantations. Monitoring of farming fields and experimental scientific stations of Institutions and Universities and revealing sources of contamination. 2 nd stage. Identification of viruses by indicative plants. 3d stage. Viruses’ identification will be conducted annually by PCR methods. 4 th stage. Assessment of perspective cotton varieties resistance for revealing immune and virus resistant varieties.
