Intervention Time is Small Group Instruction Based on Data

Data Based Collaboration O Data is used to guide instruction and intervention. O Weekly PD and follow up allows teachers time for weekly planning and professional learning centered around data based instruction, as well as follow up coaching.

Our Work is Hard! We must use data and give teachers time to grow.

TRANSFORMATION ZONE How Do we know the transformation is working?

Some Highlights O At this time last year there had been 91 arrests at Fair Park and Woodlawn High Schools. This year there have been 7.

Highlights O At this time last year we were using 100 additional spots at Ombudsman for Expulsion. Most of the decrease can be attributed to the Transformation Zone

Highlights O Last year, Fair Park only had 6 students score a “Good” on the EOC exam in Algebra. This year there are 70 students enrolled in enriched Algebra classes

Highlights O Attendance is up at every school in the zone, as high as 96-99% in the elementary schools. O Discipline referrals and out of school suspensions are down. “These campuses are schools again.” Clay Walker, Juveline Justice

Highlights O Midway- ZERO discipline referrals all year! O Atkins Elementary – Discipline referrals down 50% O Mooretown Elementary- 2 suspensions all year! O Westwood- Referrals down over 70 percent in the last two years, with a current 1.7 percent suspension rate O CMCT- Discipline Referrals down 40 % O Lakeshore- 6.6 % OSS rate (Goal is 15%)

Highlights O Woodlawn- The number of days spent out of school due to discipline is down 147%. O 4 ACT Prep courses with enrollment of 89 students. O 148 Students enrolled in credit recovery.

Highlights O Every school is doing biweekly focus quizzes and tracking data to improve academic progress. O This includes reading and math fluency, as well as performance on curriculum based focus quizzes and assessments.

Community Bus Tour O and The Amazing Shake

Community Involvement and Service O Every school participates in community service and involvement activities. O Lakeshore made and delivered scarves. O Westwood is a Live United schools with United Way and partnered with the Simple Church to Provide Christmas O The Entire Zone got together to provide a Christmas Do-Over to a family from Werner Park that lost everything in a Christmas morning fire

How is Our Work Spilling Over into the District? O Teacher Instructional Leadership Training (TILT) is being expanded to more schools. O Ron Clark Trip and its effects are expanding to other schools in district. O RTI/Intervention is a district wide effort. O UVA processes for Campus 90 Day Plans has expanded to other schools as “semester plans” O PARCC professional development provided to Zone included other directors and schools. O Transformation Officer leads PD in district with other directors and schools.

Our Challenges… O Uncertainty with state testing O The majority of our students have come in behind, having spent the majority of their lives in struggling schools O The number of overage and 9T students O The number of special education students is high in the Zone O Difficulty in attracting and retaining certified teachers, especially in critical areas

The Zone is truly saving Lives!

HOPE …In action
