Natural Hazards The island of Taiwan lies in a complex tectonic area, and Taiwan's climate is marine tropical. Thus, Natural hazards such as typhoons and earthquakes are common in the region. Typhoons 3.5 Typhoons : 3.5 typhoons hit Taiwan per year on average. Earthquakes 18,000 Earthquakes : 18,000 earthquakes hit Taiwan per year on average. (In 2010, Magnitude > 4 : 148 ) Installed DWS (Disaster Warning System) to maintain operation safety in all weather conditions.
