POWER REQUIREMENTS IN DMRC Delhi Metro has a demand of around 150 MW Monthly expenditure on electricity 45 crores On an average, DMRC is paying electricity bills of amount of 1.5 crores/ day which is about 45% of the total expenditure. In an effort to save environment, DMRC has decided to use its premises for generating electricity by solar and propagate the use of Solar Energy in a big way 7/26/20144

Sector-21, Dwarka Metro Station Yamuna Bank Metro Station Yamuna Bank Rail Depot …….DETAILED PROJECT REPORTS 7/26/20148

DMRC signed a MOU with Solar Energy Corporation of India in Sept 2013 for its first pilot project at Dwarka Sector – 21 SECI suggested us two models  In the first model, the entire cost of the Project would be borne by the DMRC (i.e. 70%) and 30% would be by SECI  In the second model the project cost to be borne by the agency identified by SECI and they will enter into a PPA for 25 years with DMRC at a mutually agreed tariff. 30% subsidy from SECI shall be availed by the agency. This model was termed as RESCO (Renewable Energy Supply Company) model. 7/26/20149

DMRC decided to go ahead with RESCO model The plant to be grid connected at 415 volts as DMRC would be able to utilize all the power generated through this roof top installation. The metering arrangement shall be provided to find out the units generated for payment to the RESCO agency. 7/26/201410

DMRC signed a Power Purchase Agreement with M/S SEI superior Pvt. Ltd. in Feb 2014 under RESCO model The Installation works started in June 2014 and the plant is in operation since 27/06/2014. The agreement for Power Purchase with the developer is for 25 Years. The solar plant generates around 2200 units of electricity per day, maximum being 2600 units on one occasion This much electricity can light about 8 to 10 underground stations or about 40 to 50 elevated stations during day time 7/26/201411

Salient Features of the PPA Payment by DMRC only for units generated Out of 30% subsidy, 3% to be retained by SECI as consultancy fees 27% subsidy release in stages linked to plant performance in first 2 years Termination clause – Default by Developer – Default by DMRC 7/26/201412

EXPECTED SAVINGS 7/26/201415

The Solar PV plant has 1670 solar modules of 300 W each and 20 inverters of 20 kW (AC) each. Each module is of about 2 sqm area The usable roof area of 8500 sqm out of sqm has been covered CONSTRUCTION FEATURES 7/26/201416

The inverters are also one of the best make available in industry. The efficiency of inverters is as high as 98%. Inverter has a feature to ensure that solar electricity is first used and additional requirement is taken from grid as it is synchronized with grid electricity and has a positive phase angle shift to ensure its flow before grid power. This way it is ensured that all the solar electricity generated is used to 100%. The solar modules are divided in to four blocks. The placement of modules has been kept considering the simulated shadow analysis on the roof throughout the day OTHER FEATURES 7/26/201421

The solar modules have been placed without making a single hole on the roof. These are designed to withstand a wind load of 200 kmph, which is rare in Delhi. Weather monitoring equipments have been installed to monitor sunlight, wind, temperature of site. Online monitoring of electricity generation (kW, kWh etc.) and weather parameters has been done 7/26/201422

ONLINE MONITORING 7/26/201423

Future Expansion & Plans  DMRC has also signed agreement for 250 kW solar plant at Anand Vihar & Pragati Maidan Metro Stations and its residential complex at Pushp Vihar.  DMRC has also floated tenders for Solar plants in its depots with capacity of 1.5 MW.  DMRC has now been enlisted as implementing agency for Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission Phase II. 7/26/201424

SOLAR POLICY DMRC is also in the process of preparing its solar policy. As per this policy we are planning to implement 20 MW of solar power in next 3 years, which will meet around 5% of its total energy consumption. 7/26/201425

This is just a beginning. DMRC will continue on the path towards achieving a green public transportation system. 7/26/201426
