All rights reserved. 4 Defenitions and Terms DHCP: (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) is a computer networking protocol used by Host computers to retrieve IP address and assignments and other configuration information automatically. IP Address: ( Internet Protocol) A IP-Address is used, to deliver data from a sender to the right receiver. This is like a postal address on an envelope which is used to identify the correct receiver, but instead of an address in words, a network use IP-Addresses. Example : Proxy server: A Proxy server is a server acts as an interface between PC’s in a network. It basically controls what data is received and transmitted in a PC network. Fire Wall: A "firewall" is a specialized defense system for a computer network, it slows the invasion of a computer system by blocking viruses and hackers. Ping: is a computer utility used to test the reachability of a PC on an (IP) network, and it is used to measure the round trip time for messages sent from the originating PC to a destination PC. FTP: File Transfer Protocol (FTP) File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from one PC to another over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet. OS: Operating System (OS) An operating system is software, consisting of programs and data, that runs on computers, manages computer hardware resources. Back
