Why do people work? Money Identity Feel good about themselves To be challenged To be with others To make a difference To feel good about themselves To use skills and talents

Why do jobs exist? Jobs exist to meet the needs and wants of a society. Some jobs grow because of specific needs in a society. When jobs grow or change because of these needs, we see trends development. For instance, our need to protect our environment for future generations has created the need for jobs that help us protect our natural resources.

BABYBOOMERS Another need in a society is for services for our aging population. Because many of our citizens in the United States are over the age of 55 and will live longer than previous generations, our society will need jobs such as nursing home workers, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and many other jobs in the medical field. We will also have a need for service jobs that will assists the older population in doing things that they are unable to do. Such as handyman services, painters, yard workers, etc.

Women in the workforce More women in the workforce has created the need for specific jobs in our society. Jobs that will grow include: Daycare Workers, childcare workers of all types, household workers, personal care workers, etc

Technology Society use of technology in every sector or our work world will continue the need for technology workers. Jobs that are likely to grow in technology are: Robot programmer, computer programmer, Information engineer, Applications Engineer Architect Data Analyst It Manager Network Engineer Product Manager Program Manager Project Manager Software Developer Technical Support

Why should you care about any of these employment trends? Because they let you know where the jobs will be when you graduate from school. By knowing this before you plan your career, you can be sure to go into a career that will have job openings. That does not mean you will necessarily be able to get jobs in these fields in your hometown, but you should be able to find a job!

Why do certain jobs exists in certain places and not in others? Jobs exists because of the needs of a society. Jobs also exists in certain areas based on the natural and human resources available in an area. It would not make sense to have coal miners in Daytona Beach, Florida. Nor would it make sense to have surfboard shops in Manchester, KY. Likewise, there will be more of a need for specific jobs in more populated areas than in small towns.

Human Resources Human resources in a society is basically their people. The value of the human resources to businesses includes how educated/trained the people are; how healthy the people in an area are; and how old the people in an area are. If a business is looking at hiring a large number of people for a factory, they will consider these factors when building their companies in specific communities
