A MODEL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB LIBRARY SYSTEM Working group Development: Maja Jokić Sofija Klarin Radovan Kovačević Marijana Mišetić

Goal Constant development of the University of Zagreb Library System assurance with control mechanisms that will enable the system to react to changes: –Functional and technological changes monitoring, and –Cooperation in processes in the electronic environment adjustment that requests scientific community.

Sustainable library system model postulates Library system business development according to the changes in financing, library collection and services development and technology requests. Proposition drafting for collection and information sources development according to the user requests, university curricula and faculty and institute’s special needs. Proposition drafting for new technological solutions implementation in the library collection developmetn and digital technologies usage.

Sustainable library system model postulates Cooperation with faculties and institutes development, especially in the teaching to enhance library system efficiency (for example: librarians in the teaching process model development) User and library usage surveys programme model drafting User education model drafting Library staff permanent educationmodel drafting

Development organization postulates System management working group and Development operative working group: System management working group and Operative working group for development should have defined status in the library system and in the university!

System management working group Members: –Head of university libary, –Scientific field libararies representatives, –CARNet representative, –University representative (vice deen level) and Ministery of science, education and sport representative (vice ministar or deputy level). Tasks: –To enable library system mantainence and development suggestions realisation. –To make decisions about system financing as a whole with all technological and organisational postulates. Their decision should be based on suggestions and survey results that are conducted by Development oparative working group.

Development operative working group Members : –Librarians/information specialists included in the collection development; –Librarians/information specialists that develop library user services and conduct user and library usage surves; –Librarians/information specialists in user and libarary staff education; –Subject field deans, and –CARNet representative. Tasks : –Coolection development (all types of electronic collections) –Surveys: user survey, library collections usage survey, library services survey –User and library staff education –Monitoring library system and new services development in academic libraries in the scientific communication processes

Library system mantainance and development postulates Library management coordination and integration: –Joint catalogue construction and bibliographic and other products (Voyager!) –Consortial development of library collection, electronice resources acquistion (journals and books), –(National) digital repositary libarary implementation – e- science development, –Library system portal implementation, –Hardware and software mantenance, –National depositary library implementation, –Library staff and users permanent education

Activities suggested in the model implementation plan: Phase 1: Poral architecture as integrated library system model reflection Phase 2: Portal functions development – as a result of working group activities Phase 3: User surveys, user and library staff education project development
