CAREER PATHWAY NAVIGATION FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS WE SERVE YOUTH AND ADULTS TOGETHER TO PROVIDE MORE COST EFFECTIVE TRAININGS, PLUS IT IS RICHER WITH INTERGENERATIONAL PARTICIPANTS

COLLABORATION Secondary (K12) Post- secondary Adult Basic Education (ABE) MN Workforce Center Southwest MN Private Industry Council (PIC) Adult Youth and Young Adults MN DEED Local Employers

“ ” TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE!

CURRENTLY MA-TEC an alternative learning center in Marshall, MN for students in grades 9-12 who have not experienced success within the traditional school program. Students up to age 21 have access to a comprehensive array of services to help them earn a high school diploma. All Marshall Public students have access to this training. Facility allows for Welding and Healthcare Technical Education to occur. The facility is available to both youth and adults. The school district recognizes the need for technical training. The goal is to add other future career pathway technical education programs.

Minnesota West Community & Technical College is a comprehensive community and technical college with five southwestern Minnesota campuses: Canby, Granite Falls, Jackson, Pipestone, and Worthington and centers in Luverne, Marshall, and Redwood Falls. Students have the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in more than 60 disciplines.

MA-TEC and MN West will enter into a “closed contract” for purposes of dual credit. The student will earn both academic credit towards high school graduation and post-secondary college credits. The “closed contract” allows Marshall K12 (MA-TEC) to determine who can make use of these services. Marshall ABE/Workforce (PIC) offer a wrap-around services and allow for resources to be leveraged throughout each of the career pathway trainings offered. Local Employers participate in these trainings as complimentary value added activities- such as business tours, employer panels, use of their Virtual Dementia Tour Tool etc.

MN West provides instruction with WorkForce and ABE staff providing wrap around services. Each Career Track demands a unique blend of wrap around services to make these trainings successful. Wrap around services are critical, and done most efficiently with system alignment, or strong partnerships.

SYSTEMS ALIGNMENT WRAP AROUND SERVICES EXAMPLES

ABE AND/OR K12 Introduce vocabulary consistent with the profession through Distance Learning program of Learner Web via the ABE program Provide computer skills with mastery in North Star Digital Literacy assessment (ABE product) Participate in math content related to the Health Care field, or other career pathway programs Financial Literacy Workforce Development Study Skills Tutoring Explanation for independent/online Pre Healthcare content

Local Employers Employer Panels Business Tours Virtual Dementia Tour tool Provide input into training design *Other content as needed to allow participants to be the best well rounded employee possible

RESOURCE LEVERAGING ABE will back fill any slots not being filled in this class with adults desiring the same training ABE will compensate the Marshall system for these students with either grant funds (as available) or program dollars

The PIC (Workforce Center) program supports this endeavor in the following ways: Provide financial support as available for students qualifying for available funding Provide time and space, or universal services, such as: MN Works, Labor Market Information, Creative Job Search, Business Services, etc. Employers provide time and space for items such as program design input, panels, business tours, and much more.

It should also be noted that as the Youth Workforce program assists with this pathway training it puts them in a stronger position to seek and receive more grants from “their world” which will do well to support these efforts in the future. There are getting to be more grants in their “world” to support pathway training youth!
