4 Objectives Understand which federal agencies are involved in career pathways at the federal level. Learn how to crosswalk YCC goals with the Career Pathways definitions and components. Understand what partners are necessary at the local level for a career pathways system and how YCC fits into the system. Be able to identify tools and other resources available through the DOL Career Pathways Toolkit that will be most useful for YCC programs. 4

Career Pathways in WIOA – Defined as a combination of rigorous and high –quality education, training, and other services that… YCC Elements Align with the skill needs of industries in the economy Demonstrate strong partnerships with employers Prepare an individual to be successful in secondary or postsecondary education options including apprenticeship Ensure all students participate in post-secondary education and training that leads to credit toward a degree or certificate granted by an institution of higher education Counseling to support an individual in achieving the individual’s education and career goals Individualized career counseling and academic counseling that includes career and post-secondary awareness and exploration opportunities beyond high school Education offered concurrently with and in the same context as workforce preparation activities and training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster Blend educational and workplace environments to develop work readiness and technical skills that will lead to successful employment, entry into and successful completion of post-secondary education, long-term occupational skills training, or Registered Apprenticeship; Organizes education, training, and other services to meet the particular needs of an individual in a manner that accelerates educational and career advancement Offer multiple educational and career pathways with a demonstrated track record of success in serving eligible participants; Enables an individual to attain a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and at least recognized postsecondary credential Result in a high school diploma and, where feasible and applicable, an industry-recognized credential; Helps an individual enter or advance within a specific occupation or occupational cluster Incorporate activities that will develop academic and social skills, competencies, and behaviors demanded by the high-growth H-1B industry(ies) and occupation(s);
