© 2014 IAEG Problem Statement The dye penetrant washed off from non-destructive testing and the waste coolant from machining operations is currently disposed of in IBCs. The IBCs are taken to two bigger tanks (total capacity: 14 m3) and once these tanks are full, the waste contractor pumps out the liquid into tankers to be disposed off-site However it is estimated that 80% of the liquid mixture is water, hence the majority of the disposal cost is for the disposal of water. Separation of the water from the dye penetrant and cutting fluid could reduce current annual disposal costs (approximately £18k for one production cell alone) substantially 2

The evaporated clean water is condensed and discharged via a heat exchanger into a storage tank or IBC, or potentially directly into a drain The emulsified oils and waste materials are concentrated by the process and discharged into a tank for disposal or treatment The unit is simple to operate and maintain, is compact and simplifies the associated management of waste liquid storage 3
