ALCOHOL SCREENING WITH THE AUDIT - QUESTIONNAIRE - The Multi-Professional Training Program in the City of Helsinki City of Helsinki Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Leena Alho

Leena Alho2 We have translated and modified the AUDIT questionnaire into different languages: Finnish, English, Swedish, Estonian and Russian.

We have edited two quides for the social work. And written a short AUDIT - manual for nurses and social workers Leena Alho3

The multi–professional training program We have developed the training program in order to implement the AUDIT (WHO 2001) into practice. We train social workers and nurses in small groups Leena Alho4

Our training program contains: First – the theory part, includes AUDIT, brief intervention and refferal to treatment (approx. 3h). Second – the practice part, workers use the method in their own work (approx. one month). Third – the supervision part, we discuss the workers’ experiences together in groups (approx. 3h).

Leena Alho6 The situation today We have trained over three hundred social workers and nurses during two years. Thousands of clients have been tested and given help in the health and social services.

Leena Alho7 What else have we done? We have organized annual AUDIT gatherings We have taken part in health and welfare happenings We have acted as consults in different workgroups in early alcohol intervention related issues We have been active in planning the alcohol strategy for the city
