3 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland Commitment 13, Mental Health Strategy Scotland (2012-2015) Psychological therapies refer to a range of interventions, based on psychological concepts and theory, which are designed to help people understand and make changes to their thinking, behaviour and relationships in order to relieve distress and to improve functioning. The target applies specifically to psychological therapies for treatment. ‘We will faster access to psychological interventions by ensuring 18 weeks from referral to treatment from December 2014. This is irrespective of age, illness or therapy’

A range of interventions based on psychological concepts and theory and which are designed to help people understand and make changes to their thinking or behaviour or relationships in order to relieve distress and to improve functioning.

5 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland The Psychological Interventions Team Recommend criteria and pathways for access to various psychological interventions Highlight the required volume of different psychological interventions to meet client needs. Identify the staff skills and develop training opportunities required to improve access to and deliver effective psychological interventions. Create the supervision necessary to support staff in increasing access to psychological interventions and to develop the psychological literacy of staff working in health and care settings in Scotland.

15 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland Summary NEED There is a demand and drivers for psychologically based interventions such as PBS. NEED A multi-professional strategy is needed to improve the competence, capability and confidence of the learning disability workforce. NEED PBS is a commonly utilised approach by LD clinical psychologists FIT Currently good infrastructures to support the delivery of psychological interventions (supervision/coaching, sharing practice, use of routine outcomes) by psychological services RESOURCES & CAPACITY LD clinical psychologists feel competent, capable & confident regarding PBS READINESS Work is required to increase the evidence base, articulate the value of PBS to managers, create improved infrastructures across disciplines & governance in LD services
