Presentation transcript:

All animals and plants have adaptations that help them survive in their environment. Examples of Plant Adaptations: Support/food storage: Above ground (prop) roots, Stiff cell walls in stems and trunks (vascular tissue that also carries water and food), Starch storage in roots. Prevention of water loss: Waxy cuticle, stomata on leaves, reduced leaf surface area (cactus), seed coats. Reproduction: Seed dispersal by wind and animals, colors to attract pollinators Defense: Toxins, thorns, bark.

Name the Biome Desert Temperate Forest Tundra Tiaga Tropical Rainforest Grasslands

Plants are adapted to their environment. Long roots? No Leaves? Waxy Coat? Desert Plant adapted to low water. Big leaves? Rainforest plant adapted to low light. Short? Grows under snow? Tundra plant adapted to cold climate.

3. The box lists some characteristics of a plant that has adapted to conditions in its environment. To which type of environment is the plant best adapted? A Desert B Grassland C Tundra D Rain forest
