White Oak Elementary Media Center Orientation

General Information about the Media Center The media center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30-3:30 Students are allowed to visit the library during school or after school with parent. Students must enter with their library pass. Library lessons are taught through a sign up sheet on the circulation desk.

Circulation Desk Drop box for returned books

Check out policies Students are allowed to check out 5 books at a time. (CAFÉ policy) Students may have the books checked out for up to 2 weeks. They may either be returned or students can renew them if need be. Periodicals and reference materials may not be checked out to students, however, students may use them while visiting the library. Fines for books are ten cents each day the book is not returned or renewed. Students are responsible for paying for any lost or damaged book.

When Selecting books… Students should bring with them their card that has their reading level on it or their lexile range. Students should remember the rules for IPICK. Students should make sure books are returned before checking out a new one.

Fiction and Non-fiction books The fiction section is categorized by the author’s last name. Non-fiction books are based on the Dewey Decimal System. The signs on top of the shelves will help you find which section you are searching for.

Biographies

Student computers Students will need to know their login name and password to log on to the computers. If they wanted to use the online catalog, the computer will already be logged into the program.

Library Programs This room in the media center holds leveled books for students who are reading based on certain levels and or themes.
