GRADE 9 brought to you by…

Get Organized ! Should have a binder for each course Organize course material –Dividers for each unit Notes Assignments Tests

Get Ready ! Get all the materials you need together

Plan out your study time! Start early! Use your agenda to plan out your study time Don’t leave it to the last minute…cramming does not work

Create the perfect study place! should be quiet, comfortable and free from distractions

Actively study! Read, cover, and recite AND/OR Rewrite important facts/concepts in Q&A form on index cards (question on one side, answer on the back) AND/OR Photocopy pages from text to read, highlight, circle, underline key information AND/OR

Record question, pause, then record answer …listen on iPod or computer (pause will give you time to answer before answer is given) Use a checklist to keep track of main concepts and what you need to concentrate on Use colour to help you remember different things; i,.e. units, vocabulary, formulas

Study smart…not hard! Don’t study everything…study what you do not know Focus on the most important topics, key themes/concepts Once you've nailed down the important stuff, you can move onto the finer details

Take breaks! For every hour that you study, take about 15 minutes to do something mindless Will help to keep stress level down & give your brain a chance to process the info

Study Tips from Students Ask questions, be specific about what you do not understand!…teachers, peers are more than willing to help Help others…when you explain it, you will understand it better yourself Anticipate the questions …make a practice test …or use ones from previous

Before the Exam Get a good night’s rest Eat a good breakfast and/or lunch …your brain needs fuel

Exam Writing Tips 10 tips to help YOU ace your exams!

1. Come prepared If you have an IEP…USE the accommodations that you are entitled to Arrive early Full uniform Pens, pencils, eraser, white-out Calculator Ruler

2. Read the whole exam Make sure you understand the instructions If you are given choices, plan which ones you will answer Figure out where the most marks are and budget your time accordingly While you are answering one question, information about another may suddenly occur to you Jot it down somewhere because when you come to that question later, you may have forgotten

3. Read each question carefully Underline key words What are you being asked to do? Is there more than 1 part to the question?

4. Don’t leave blanks If you are short on time, use point form Pay attention to how much a question is worth…i.e. don’t put down 1 point for a 5 mark question If you write nothing, you can't receive any marks

5. Don’t spend too much time on multiple choice ?s Cover the answers and work out your own before looking at the choices Read all the answers before making your choice Place an x beside the ones you know are incorrect If you can't answer the question come back to it later – can take a guess

6. Use all of your time Take the time to go over the exam and check your answers Do not change anything unless you are 100% sure it is wrong Use reverse calculations to check math questions
