Key Principles Strengthening economic development through wider adaptation and Resilience Enabling economic development through investment in flood and coastal risk management

Proposed Duel Approach o Set out how adaptive actions will be promoted in strategies through,  Ensure that all future economic growth is resilient to climate change and its impacts o Include targeted and proportionate SIF investment in measures to enable growth by managing flood and coastal risks through,  Aligning and matching with domestic funding and policies to ensure that growth is sustainable

Integrate Adaptation Support opportunities to evolve adaptation goods, services and markets Help businesses and organisations make well-informed decisions to manage their risk Inform and support assessment of climate change risk impacts and adaptive measures into policy and investment decision-making

Increasing Flood and Coastal Risk Ensure that growth, and development to accommodate it, is robust to increasing risks and does not transfer or defer risks to others That achievement of sustainable growth is not constrained by climate risks Investment that enables growth through managing increasing flood and coastal risk complements domestic policy and funding mechanisms

Preliminary LEP guidance: priorities 1. Investment in resource efficiency measures that improve business performance. 2. Promoting innovative technologies that address environmental protection and resource efficiency for businesses and communities. 3. Actions to promote ecosystem services that support growth and jobs. 4. Investment in green infrastructure to support sustainable economic development.

1. Investment in resource efficiency measures that improve business performance. Research commissioned by Defra and published in March 2011 indicated that £23bn per annum could be saved through no/low cost actions to reduce waste and by using energy and resources more efficiently. disposal Business operations products services resources reduce, reuse, recycle

3. Actions to promote ecosystem services that support growth and jobs. Ecosystem services provide the raw materials for industry and provides the processes that purify air and water and breakdown wastes. 4. Investment in green infrastructure to support sustainable economic development. Green infrastructure refers to the living network of green spaces, water and other environmental features in urban, rural and maritime areas. SWOT WORKSHOP Undertake a SWOT on each theme, thinking in particular of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the Humber area 2 tables will each discuss a theme; –Climate change adaptation –Flood risk and coastal erosion –Environmental protection 1 st session will last an hour Comfort break (15 min). Move onto a different table for 2 nd session lasting 25 minutes 3 rd session discussion of links with other thematic objectives Conclusions, next steps etc. There is a facilitator on each table to help you
