First Provisional Renewal FIRST FIRST Provisional Renewal Requires completion of ONE Of THE FOLLOWING since the issue date of the initial Provisional Certificate AND within the three years preceding application: 6 semester hours at a Michigan Educator Preparation Institution (EPI) or a community college listed in the Directory of Michigan Institutions of Higher Education*; OR 180 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs); OR Combination of semester credit hours and SCECHs (30 SCECHs equate to 1 semester credit hour). NOTE: Credits and SCECHs must be appropriate to the grade level and content endorsements held OR in a planned program. * Credits completed at a regionally accredited out-of-state institution may also be acceptable. Regionally accredited institutions are defined in Michigan Teacher Certification Code R (o). 5

Second Provisional Renewal SECOND SECOND Provisional Renewal Requires completion of ONE Of THE FOLLOWING since the issue date of the FIRST Provisional Certificate AND within the three years preceding application: 6 semester hours at a Michigan Educator Preparation Institution (EPI) or a community college listed in the Directory of Michigan Institutions of Higher Education*; OR 180 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs); OR Combination of semester credit hours and SCECHs (30 SCECHs equate to 1 semester credit hour). NOTE: Credits and SCECHs must be appropriate to the grade level and content endorsements held OR in a planned program. * Credits completed at a regionally accredited out-of-state institution may also be acceptable. Provisional Extension Two-Year Extended Provisional Certificate Valid for 2 calendar years from the date of issuance. May be eligible if the following conditions have been met: Provisional expired less than 10 years ago. Has as least one year of satisfactory teaching within the validity of his/her teaching certificate. is currently enrolled in a planned program at an approved college/university. Michigan school is employing and sponsoring the individual for the validity (sponsoring school agrees to monitor the teacher’s progress towards the completion of the professional education certificate requirements as it may expire within a school year). No other certification is available until professional education certificate requirements are met. 8

Progression to… Professional Education Certificate 3 years of successful teaching experience. Appropriate reading credit (3 or 6 of content + 3 of diagnostics). And one or the combination of the following since the issuance of the Provisional Certificate within the five years prior to application: 6 semester hours at a Michigan EPI or a community college listed in the Directory of Michigan Institutions of Higher Education. 180 SCECHs. 150 DPPD hours in accordance with Michigan School Code Sections o Note: 30 SCECH =1 semester credit hour = 30 clock hours of DPPD. If DPPD is used in combination with semester credit hours and/or SCECHs teachers are required to have 180 hours to renew. If only DPPD is used teachers are required to have only 150 hours to renew.

Professional Education Certificate Renewal Completion of 6 semester hours appropriate to grade level and/or endorsement(s) of the certificate at any Michigan EPI or a community college listed in the Directory of Michigan Institutions of Higher Education or endorsement(s) of the certificate 180 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs). 150 District Provided Professional Development (DPPD) hours in accordance with Michigan School Code Section The form is available at: _5683_ ,00.htmlhttp:// 6530_5683_ ,00.html; OR A combination of semester credits, SCECHs and/or DPPD. 10

Advanced Professional Education Certification Requirements: The applicant currently holds the Professional Education Certificate. The applicant holds National Board Certification or has completed a teacher leader training or preparation program approved by the superintendent of public instruction. The applicant has received 5 consecutive effective or highly effective ratings on the annual teacher evaluation in the most recent 5-year period. –Available after September 1, 2013, only attainable after June 2016 (5 years of effectiveness data per law). Valid for up to five years. 11
