Presentation transcript:

 Shoulder sprains  Broken collar bone (fractured clavicle)  Shoulder dislocation  Shoulder separation (AC seperation)

 Cause ◦ Sudden hard blow  Symptoms ◦ Pain in shoulder and along collar bone When the ligaments from the collar bone to the shoulder blade are torn, partially torn or stretched

 Cause ◦ Direct blow to the front or side of shoulder  Symptoms ◦ Pain along collarbone

 Cause ◦ Fall directly on AC joint ◦ Repetitive overhead motion  Symptoms ◦ Tenderness and pain to touch ◦ Visible “step” Sprain or rupture of the ligaments between the collarbone and top of shoulder

Dislocation- upper arm comes out of the socket Subluxation- dislocation that returns back to socket

 Causes ◦ Direct blow or fall ◦ Having arm wrenched  Symptoms ◦ Dead feeling arm ◦ Distorted shoulder

 R- Rest  I- Ice  C- Compression  E-Elevation Try to have athlete recall the mechanism of injury

 If the person has a dislocation, broken bone or sever bleeding.  If you cannot completely immobilize the injury at the scene by yourself.  DO NOT try to realign the injury unless the skin looks pale or blue and you cannot find a pulse.
