Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership What is MBP3? The Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership -- MBP3 for short -- is a voluntary, non-regulatory business-focused pollution prevention partnership between the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the business community.

Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership Who can participate? Any Michigan business, institution, organization or association, private or public, regardless of size or industry type. Any type of business sector is welcome; manufacturing, retail, service, municipal, farming, industrial, etc.

Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership Who participates now? One hundred forty-four (144) partners Represents cross-section of industries, locations and sizes – automotive related, furniture, utilities, trade associations, health, public entities – Thirty-four (34) Michigan counties, – 13 businesses with 1000 or more employees.

Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership Benefits of MBP3? Encourages voluntary pollution prevention (P2) practices Provides public recognition of business environmental efforts with website and certificate of participation No costs or fees to participate Promotes information exchange and technology transfer through the use of e- mail, faxes, workshops, and informational bulletins

Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership How do I become a partner? Complete the one page registration form and commit to the following: – Adopt a company/facility pollution prevention policy – Develop pollution prevention (P2) goals Submit to MBP3 within six months of registration Minimum of one P2 goal Chose from a database of previously submitted goals

Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership What constitutes a P2 goal? A commitment to reduce or eliminate waste Source reduction should be first preference Specify pollution to be prevented or reduced or activity to be undertaken Projected time frame There are no right or wrong goals

Report on your progress – Annual basis (April 1) – Use MBP3 format or your own report Mail-in, fax, or electronic forms – Revise goals as appropriate for each calendar year Participate in technology transfer and outreach – Case studies – Conferences/workshops/P2 week – Communicate with suppliers/customers – Continue to improve through education
