Monthly Achiever National Delta Tau Alpha October 2011

“We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.” - Orison Swett Marden Good day! We’ve made it halfway through the semester, through midterms, and I know we were all thankful for fall break! I hope everyone was able to use that time to recuperate and prepare for the rest of the year. Many of our friends have been busy this month helping others and have plans to continue to do so! We must continue to give in order to receive, just as we must sow the fields before we can reap the benefits of the harvest. The seeds of good and hope we plant through our service produce our harvest of self fulfillment and satisfaction. Let us remember this as we continue to serve others throughout the next month.

From Across the Nation University of Central Missouri – As the host of this year’s National Convention, UCM has been working diligently to prepare for our visit! They decided on a t-shirt design and created committees for events and hospitality to ensure further progress. They planned a penny war for November to raise money for a local charity and as an incentive, the faculty member over the department who raises the most money will take a pie to the face at their Christmas party. Tennessee Tech University – This month, TTU planned a raffle for an event to help a student from their school who has cancer, initiated 11 new members, and started a fundraiser to adopt a child from the Angel Tree Project for Christmas.

From Across the Nation Sam Houston State University – They collected loose change for needy families, participated in the mud volleyball tournament, planned dates to make blankets for the Linus project, helping with homecoming events was discussed, and 16 new members were initiated. Missouri State University – This month, they ordered t- shirts, set up a finals study night for members, planned a wreath making night for their fundraiser, and scheduled a guest speak er.

Spotlight on a National Officer Interesting things you might like to know about your National Midwestern Vice President, Mrs. Volynne Bixler Volynne is a senior at the University of Central Missouri and is majoring in Agricultural Technology with a minor in Animal Science. She is a mother to two girls who are 16 and 8, an active band booster, 4-H and FFA mom, wife, and chapter secretary at UCM. She currently runs a beef operation with her family and has cattle, boer goats, chickens, ducks, turkey, dogs, and cats.

Spotlight on a National Officer Volynne said she is involved in agriculture because it’s one of the only fields where you can try several things until you find what you’re good at. She also wants to leave something to her children that they helped grow. She wants to substitute teach for a year after graduation in May and then move to a bigger farm and expand her family’s operation. They are looking to move somewhere where they can experiment with different aspects of beef cattle and agriculture in general. Volynne and her husband Jeff Her two daughters, Tamara and Tatiana

Final Notes Remember to mark your calendars for the 2012 National DTA Convention April 5-7 at Central Missouri State University! Please continue to send your chapter’s form 40’s to after each meeting so that I can incorporate stories of your success and service ideas into our monthly newsletter. DTA merchandise is available at:
