There is a focus area and theme for each GOW day and we provide hints and tips that your business may want to follow – or insert your own tips. We have marked in green all areas where you insert your own text. Copy the subject line headings for each daily which indicates the official national theme for the day. 2

SUGGESTED SCHEDULE 3

We are taking part in Green Office Week 2011 Subject: We are taking part in Green Office Week (GOW) 2011 Dear As a business and an office, we will be taking part in Green Office Week 2011 from the 18 th to the 21 st of April this year. The theme for GOW in 2011 is Care 2B Green. We have committed to get involved in the green office initiative because our planet is our responsibility and we acknowledge that by our actions we can make a difference. Did you know that 70% of office waste is recyclable but only 8% ever makes it to the recycling bin! During the week we will focus on green/sustainable office practices and guide you with daily hints and tips. Regards 4

Make it happen Monday Monday 18 April 2011 Subject: Make it happen Monday: 18 April 2011 Dear We look forward to your full participation in Green Office Week. Join us in spreading the word about eco-friendly behaviours, i.e the R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. We suggest that you download a free toolkit provided by Green Office Week for easy reference. See Our objective for today, as per the national GOW themes, is to understand how we can make a difference by focusing on how to save paper- and save trees! Did you know? Waste paper accounts for more than 40% of total waste currently being land filled. Choices you can make for today to save paper: Print only when necessary. Place all paper waste in a recycling bin and arrange for it to be collected by a recycling company Save space and paper by filing on your computer/network rather than printing it out (be sure to back up your computer) Use a bulldog clip to create notebooks from scrap pages Make use of the flip side of pages when printing internally or change your printer settings to double-sided printing Always check your print settings prior to printing especially when printing spreadsheets as picking up mistakes will save lots of paper The official Green Office Week website has tip sheets on various focus areas. For paper it’s focus area 1. See guidelines: Start today by encouraging behaviours which make a difference to our planet! Regards 5

Choosy Tuesday Tuesday 19 April 2011 Subject: Choosy Tuesday 19 April 2011 Dear Our objective for today is to motivate ourselves to opt for products which are eco-friendly and produce less waste. Did you know? Green products are generally produced in a way that consumes less natural resources or uses them more sustainably. Choices you can make for today: Buy office products that are reusable (e.g. Packaging) office products that are refillable (e.g. Pens and pencils) office products that are non-toxic (e.g. Cleaning products) non wood products where possible repairable products and Click here for a tip sheet on how to buy green (focus area 4) Make a commitment to be more conscious of your buying decisions. You can save money and save our planet. Regards 6

Wattage Wednesday Wednesday 20 April 2011 Subject: Wattage Wednesday 20 April 2011 Dear Our objective for today is to save our natural resources by reducing electricity usage. Did you know? By turning off your light for an hour a day you can save up to 10% on your overall electricity bill. Choices you can make for today: Switch off unnecessary lights (especially when you leave the office) Unplug electrical devices not in use as many still draw current even when switched off Go without your air conditioner for a day (if you can) Turn down the thermostat of your office geyser as you don’t need boiling hot water to wash your hands Set all PCs and office equipment to energy saving modes and ensure ALL are switched off at night Click here for a tip sheet on how to save energy (focus area 2) Make a commitment to create an energy-saving awareness campaign. You can make the right choices to save our planet. Regards 7

Thoughtful Thursday Thursday 21 April 2011 Subject: Thoughtful Thursday 21 April 2011 Dear Our objective for today is to engage in more thoughtful behaviours when holding meetings and events. Did you know? Meetings and events can seriously contribute to the carbon footprint and should be thought-through carefully. Choices you can make for today: Where possible hold events close to your office and travel together Event information and promotion should ideally be through electronic formats and websites Instead of A3 flipcharts, use Whiteboards or computer-derived presentations Give preference to eco-friendly venues Click here for a tip sheet on how to have thoughtful meetings and events (focus areas 6 & 7) Keep caring 2B green! Keep informed by visiting PS: Tomorrow is a religious holiday for many. Have a peaceful and safe driving day. For green driving tips see Regards 8
